The first three games of the tournament are over with and they were all great games.

Notre Dame lost by one to Old Dominion in a game in which Notre Dame led for most of the game. The big story was Old Dominion's shut down of Notre Dame's second leading scorer of all-time Luke Harongody. Harongody was held to four points. Notre Dame's last second three went half way down the hoop and popped out. Old Dominion won 50-51.

In the second game BYU downed Florida in double overtime. BYU was up by as much as 13 in the second half, but Florida fought its way back to tie it and force it into overtime, missing a last second shot in regulation. Again in overtime Florida with a chance to win the game, could not get the shot to fall. In the second overtime, BYU took over the game outscoring the Gators 18 to 11 to win the game by the score of 99-92.

The third game was the most exciting, with the 2 seed Villanova taking on the big underdog Robert Morris. Robert Morris gave Villanova trouble all day leading by as much as nine points. Scottie Reynolds struggled all day despite scoring 20 points, 15 of those were from the free throw line. With the game tied, Reynolds took the ball to the hoop but put up an air ball. On the inbounds, the lob to Sutton was caught, but as he went to lay it in the shot was blocked from behind by Robert Morris to force overtime. In overtime, Villanova scored first and held the lead for the rest of the game. Robert Morris fought back from a seven point deficit with less than two minutes left, getting to within one point with about ten seconds left. Villanova made two free throws to get the lead back to three and Robert Morris' last second three hit the back of the rim and bounced out giving Villanova the win, 73-70.
